Planning for the future and modern building face a range of new challenges. Whether cost-effectiveness, energy efficiency or safety – smart building and building management technology impose great demands on the field devices that measure, control and regulate, and they demand intelligent solutions, which is what Gruner can provide for you.
itaMAX achieves energy savings of up to 70 % compared to conventional mechanical ventilation systems – not only with new builds, but also with retrofits and the renovation of existing buildings. The itaMAX system can be integrated in existing building management systems using standardised interfaces and protocols. Optionally, fans are activated by an analogue system or via Modbus RTU. When using Modbus RTU, up to 240 supply and exhaust air controllers can be connected up to the same line. All that is required is to set the fan parameters – itaMAX takes charge of operation automatically. There is no need to engage in the time-consuming and arduous task of defining parameter settings. Network diagnostics enable parameterisation, remote diagnosis and remote maintenance to be performed via a web interface.
itaMAX is the ideal interface for intelligent control of the fan speed. This enables the power of fans to be adapted precisely to suit needs, and the system only provides the air supply that is actually needed.
As a gateway to the field devices, itaMAX simplifies the task of integrating controllers and is easy to incorporate in existing systems. For control purposes, various parameters are recorded, such as the prevailing flap positions of all HVAC boxes for supply and exhaust air. To accomplish this, the demand signal transmitters of the room temperature controller are connected remotely, directly to the HVAC box. The specifically designed itaMAX algorithm then regulates the fans which are controlled by a frequency converter.

The recently constructed Festival Hall in Wehingen satisfies ultimate fire protection standards, achieved with the help of actuators from Gruner.
These ultra-robust actuators are intended to facilitate motorised opening and closing operations, to withstand high temperatures and also to be suitable for manual switching. Furthermore, the system should be compact and the actuator should be located directly on the locking system to prevent expensive transmission mechanisms that are prone to cause malfunctions.
To ensure that these electrical actuators also work reliably in serious situations, all major components are made of steel. This means that the motor torque is maintained over an extended period, even at temperatures of up to 90 °C. LEDs and temperature sensors indicate the precise operating status and simplify troubleshooting and maintenance.
This range of Gruner actuators provides a broad range of torques. For example, in Europe, two types cover the torque ratings needed for F&S in buildings. Specialist actuators with communication capabilities are used for smoke protection. These combine the intelligence of the actuators with that of the control system.
Reliable operation in the event of a fire is supplemented by ease of maintenance and testing on this system. Since the fire protection flaps have been equipped with the new Gruner actuators, servicing can be performed conveniently at the touch of a button, instead of needing to be performed by hand in each fire protection area, which was necessary in the past.
As a successful OEM partner, Gruner has developed and manufactured leading-edge technological solutions for HVAC, fire protection, for the control of central and remote ventilation systems and for particularly noise-sensitive environments. This means that we can provide you with a complete range of field devices for building automation, equipped with itaMAX, the ideal interface for integration in existing building management control systems.
